Project Runway

* Still cant use my apostrophes or quotes key!*

I love Project Runway, whenever its on I get so mesmerized. The fabrics from Mood, the spontaneous creativity, the art. I will be so sad when it moves to Lifetime and I no longer remember when to watch every episode and its rerun.

Project Runway, I will miss you!

Also, if you know how to fix the apostrophe/quote key on a MacBook, please let me know!

vehicular madness

So last night I went to pick up one of my favorite people at the airport. Her car died in the long-term parking garage and we were more than ready to jump it if needed. A lot of tutorial videos were watched before leaving my house and I had a hand full of post-its with tips and directions written in sharpie. Just in case we meet some creepers in the parking garage, I forced my brother to come with. He was not happy, I offered to buy him beer the next day.

On the way, the gross gas station near me was closed and because of this my brother and I witnessed the worst car crash we have ever seen. For whatever reason, this driver couldnt figure out how to get on the highway and drove through a yard and crashed in to a tree! We caught the end of it when he stumbled out of his totaled car and ran around to pull a passenger out by the arms, body limp and bleeding!

It was absolutely insane and unfortunately we were running late for our next adventure so I called the police. There wouldnt have been a whole lot we could do in this situation. The driver had already pulled the victim out of the car... a major no-no and it was unclear if he was drunk but lets be honest.. he totally had to have been and I get super nervous around erratic drunks.

So we saw the cops come rushing over and we were on our way to airport. Then we got lost, ran out of gas, circled around the airport and found my friend (she managed to start her car) pulled over on the worst exit you could ever get stuck on. Realizing this was no longer a battery problem and a major fight with the brother later (the case of beer is no officially off the table).. the tow truck came and we gave her a ride home.

On the way we saw another awful car crash. This time it looked like a small car hit a garbage truck but the garbage truck was not around. 6 cops surrounded the small car.. where is the local fox investigation team when you need them?

All in all, we made it home in one piece before 2 a.m.

Throwing It Out There

I am a huge believer in two over-done concepts
1. Everything Happens For A Reason
2. Take A Chance, You Never Know Where It Will Lead

Gross right? Those are made for embroidered towels, welcome mats and snow globes.
However, I think theres something to them and therefore I am going to post my resume. Not because Im desperate for a stable job and will do almost anything to pop up on Google.... okay that is exactly why Im doing it. I like to think of it as ... charming?

I have a lot of skills and the passion/energy to put them to great use. No, I am not interested in Sex Work. However, if you are and you need an ambitious p.r. person... just kidding!

Here is my two page document that proves I went to college, took a course on the formalities of job searching and can follow directions. A full resume with references and contact information is available upon request.

Growing Up

I have always been told its good to find a signature fragrance and lip color. That way you find a way to stand out sensory-memory-wise and according to my favorite Aunt, youll get gifts you could actually use once people know your favorites. Every time I read or heard this, I would roll my eyes. Thinking this was such a materialistic and old-fashioned idea.

However, I have found both a perfume I never want to stop wearing and a lip color I dont think I could live without both in the same week. How strange is that? I must be growing up, its really the only option I can come up with.

The perfume was a gift from my Grandma, Grandma always scores in the beauty department. Avon Black Waterproof Mascara... Holla! She also found the best scent I could ever wear, Michael Kors. I am obsessed with it, I cant imagine not wanting to wear this and if I were ever the type to date a classy gentleman, I would be stoked to receive it as a gift.

The lip color came to me by accident. To go along with this exciting perfume, Grandma gave me a Sephora gift certificate. Double Score. I got a few other great basics but then came across the most hilarious name for a lipstick... Ladies Choice. Ladies Choice? Are they serious? Have they not been exposed to Demetri Martins routine on the word Ladies? How could I ever put this on without laughing? So I tried it and the clouds parted, angels appeared and I have officially become a fan of Benefits Ladies Choice. I am not only pro-choice but pro-Ladies Choice.

Michael Kors, Benefit and a Kenneth Cole winter coat.
When did I ever become interested in labels?
Does this new commitment mean I have to get up early and shower before work?

perogie, pierogie, pyrohy, poroghy

However you like to spell it and no matter how your family makes them, there is no denying how perfect they are.

I called my Grandma today for our recipe, my mom misplaced it and I have been feeling productive, instead of being really excited her exact response was this..

Oh honey, why dont you just pick up a box of Mrs Ts.. your cousin just called me for it and I told her the same thing.

That is my Grandma. She doesnt like to cook and hates to stand around for detailed tasks. In fact, she changed our familys recipe to a Slovakian version so she could bake them instead of boil, to save time and forget about her edges. She is one of my favorite people and I love visiting. Somehow she has perfect timing, five-ten minutes after showing up the pizza delivery guys are there with the best pizza around. And after youve eaten all you can handle, shell make you a nice sandwich because you made a long trip and she wants you full. Grandma is the best.

Recipe in hand, I will let you know how it goes.
Bring on the butter and onions!

Christmas Over-Dose

My keyboard has decided that it no longer likes apostrophes. I have no idea why and Im at a complete loss as to how to fix it.

I have been super negative lately, I dont know if Im just stressed out but the entire world seems to be annoying. I dont want to be a complainer, especially not now in the season of cookies, holiday specials and perogie making, but it is unavoidable this year.

The ultimate reason?

I O.Dd on Christmas. I was dating a guy who was obsessed with Christmas, we are talking the type that whips out the holiday music during Thanksgiving and maybe once or twice during the summer because he missed it. I also worked for CBS radio, the holidazzle and lite fms music selection and concerts sucked the fun out of it. This year Ive needed a break. Two years of excessive Tis The Season action and I am officially in recovery.

frustrated

Saturday my team went to the Eastview Invitational to compete with everyone else and had an awesome time. They completed a huge task, beating two teams in jazz and they did great in kick. However, I am so tired of the way people look at my team. Most of the competitions are held at huge suburban schools with teams similar to a large bitchy army. They give our girls rude glances, get nervous when they're in line with them in the bathrooms and act surprised when they do well.

That's nothing new but what happened Saturday reached a new long. One of our girls brought her on and off girlfriend along, she wanted her to see what she does and meet the team. The team is totally cool with her and she got along with the alternates really well. The only issue is that this girl identifies as male, which my girls don't really think much of since she looks so masculine to begin with. A few dad's of the hosting school cornered me asking about the "boy" they've seen running around.

When I explained the situation they told me I was wrong and they were sending a few moms in to our dressing room to check it out. They caused a scene, left my girls asking questions that I didn't want to answer because why would I want to single this girl out even more? It's bad enough to have a "search party of concerned parents" after you.

I can't get over how rude these people were to me, to my team and the stigma surrounding city schools. Why would a coach bring a boy along to spend the day in the girls dressing rooms? That wouldn't happen, they would arrange with the school for their male dancer to be placed near the team and work it out somehow.

I'm happy both girls involved didn't seem to care about the chaos, at the same time I'm so upset they deal with this so often. It makes me want to protect them more when we leave our school and enter a place less accustomed to gender/sexuality differences.

Tis the Season

It's been so cold and snowy lately, two things I despise after the holidays are over but right now I can't help but fall in love with it... the snow, not the cold. For example, last week it hit me how much I love being downtown when it snows at night. After work, yes I finally grabbed some hours, I was greeted by gorgeous snowflakes and everything felt quiet. That day I was stuck parking on the top floor the garage, or as my fabulous co-worker calls it, "straight-up seven," and the view was perfect. There's nothing better than light snow, it blankets everything, twinkles better than christmas lights and reminds me to slow down. Like breathing in yoga, I never slow down during the day but at that moment I remembered to and I'm so glad I did.

In that spirit here are some things I love about Christmas decorating and "crazy claudia" who went too far.

Loves-
Christmas parties with friends
my college roommates
cooking and baking for my favorite people
white christmas lights
patina's yearly ornament collection
a full tree, real or fake
"holiday" drinks
excuses to dress up
sledding, ice skating, being outside and actin a fool
planning theme parties
claymation and cartoon specials

A note of dislikes-

Dear good  people of the parkway,
I loved the "Let There Be Peace" block-long sign, however, you have got to get it together this year! I encourage you to remember you live in a medium traffic zone and your house is on display. Let's try to put those twinkling lights up well, if done at all. This is directed to you house with the yearly tossed (this is very much a literal description) single strand of lights on one very, very large tree.

A theme can be a great way to decorate but there is such a thing as overkill. There is no need for Rudolph to chill with Mary and Joseph while the angels talk trash with the elvs about Santa to a wasted snowman who is convinced he's jollier than thou. Please refer to the old school mannequin house, they had consistency regardless of how creepy the nativity scene looked during the day. Gingerbread home, it is true that I have a spot in my holiday heart for you but I can no longer handle Santa on the roof overlooking baby Jesus, lets pick one and go from there.

Now lights, I prefer white however multi-colored is perfectly fine. If you're going for a single color effect I'd suggest sticking to white. It's time to branch out and try something new, blueberry muffin house. Last year's replacement lights in purple among the yearly blue resembled pie filling more than Chanukah.

Those not on the parkway should also keep these guidelines in mind. This includes you next door neighbor. You are Jamaican me crazy with that swinging carrousel with windsock rudolph, santa and elf. Where did you find this mass produced item and why of all decoration possibilities did you choose this to be the addition to last years festive lighting?

Now for christmas tree collector ...

Back to Blogging

It's been awhile since I've written and unfortunately, I'll have more and more time to keep this blog up and running. My fun p.r. gig is now on a project-to-project basis and I'm back to searching for something a little more permanent. I really can't do anything that's not going to lead to a job with benefits and a steady salary.

On the up side this gives me more time to focus on the dance team, our upcoming dance show and maybe, finally, catch up on laundry... there may or may not be clothes in a very large hamper that haven't been touched since I graduated from college.

Since hearing the awesome news of my unpredictable vacay, I've had some interesting things happen.

5. I became obsessed with making a veggie-version of Tom Yum
4. I was asked on a date via facebook message
3. My 9th grade band director hit on me in the school copy room, then asked why I looked so familiar. After explaining the connection, he looked almost horrified and walked away mid-sentence.... I always knew he was a creep
2. I lost the ability to check my text/voice messages and lost the internet connection I always steal from and later figured out how to get them all back.
1. I woke up to find a very large paint chip in my hair. This did not match any of the walls in my house or the dance studio I've been spending all of my time in. I really have no idea how this paint chip found it's way to my hair but here is the photographic evidence.
