Set Your Alarms

The New Kids are going to be on the Today Show tomorrow morning and I could not be more pumped. Very few things will get me out of bed before 10 a.m. and this just happens to be one of them. Bring on the cheesy 30 somethings and the possible public humiliation.

Hmm, I want to throw a party for this occasion. How fun would that be? Breakfast and the New Kids on a Friday morning. Absolutely nothing could start a weekend better.... except getting offered a job or winning some kind of lottery but other than that, nothing.

Straight Up Trippin'

It's Spring and everyone in the Mpls area needs to watch out. For example, every Spring I get really happy because everything feels fresh and optimistic. I get so distracted by my surroundings that my klutziness is magnified like you wouldn't believe. It all started a few weekends ago at First Ave, I fell three times for no apparent reason. Since then I've been walking in to everything, falling up and down stairs, dropping things, forgetting directions, tripping over nothing and getting hit by flying objects.

Yesterday I walked in to field house for the Thunder segment and 15 minutes later I was smacked hardcore by a soccer ball. It echoed it was so loud. Players laughed, the production guys laughed and I felt awesome. The odd thing is, I expected it. In High School I endured a brief stint as a cheerleader and every soccer game was like a game of dodgeball that everyone forgot to clue me in on (not like it would have helped if they had).

In conclusion, if you see me I'm more fun to be with, I'm happier and I hear that's a very contagious quality but I'm also a dangerous girl to be around so you may want to bring some protective gear.

living in a tent

I'm getting restless. I need to do something new.  I should get a couple random jobs but then I'd miss doing IMC. I love P.R and media but it sucks to break in to, even with the help of people "in the field" I haven't gotten far.

My internship has gone from being completely awesome to completely awful in just two weeks but on the other side of the internship coin, I have a new friend and that is super wonderful. Yay for the A Team Adventure Club. We haven't done much outside of the office but plans are being made and they will be exciting.

Ack, what am I going to do with my life?? Junior year I mapped out my crazy ideas on the bathroom mirror with all of my options in washable marker. It was fabulous, it had pictures and many colors, even a few items taped on. All of the things I like are not profitable and result in either living in a tent with my camping gear and granola bars or sleeping on a friend's couch eating their pasta and fruit snacks.
*Food is a very important variable, I always include food in my hypotheticals*

Things I do not like to do at all and will never enjoy-
excessively repetitive work (subway sandwich artist and data entry)
agriculture or waste management jobs
activities involving multiple excel sheets
math, math reasoning, detailed measuring and estimation
working for egotistical, sexist over-grown frat boys
sales, cold-calling and fund-raising
working far away from other people and sitting in silence for hours
linear editing

Things I like to do but can't figure out how to get hired to do-
p.r
imc
event planning
writing
producing live & post-prod video
working with people
promotion
communications work for non-profits and social causes
learning new languages and traveling
working with kids, teaching dance, being outdoors and sleeping in

I would love to shake up this routine I'm in and have some fun. It's Spring (technically) and I want to enjoy it. I can't wait to go for long walks and meet new people. Maybe go to places I still haven't been and take advantage of being young in the city. I want to stop being so whiney about not having a job, being bored and missing people. I want to be happy with my life again. There is no need to stay indoors. I'm over the negativity, it is time for some sunshine!

giggly in green

I don't know if it's just Erin and I but have you ever noticed how certain clothes/accessories change your entire outlook for the day? For example, the both of us have a collection of cardigans that take any crappy day and make it much less crappy. Same with bracelets or specific earrings that are totally necessary when turning a day around.
Tonight is my friend Thielen's birthday and as I was getting ready I realized all of my jeans were in the dryer and no where near dry. So I'm forced to dress down my green dress with gray leggings, black boots, a light blue/green cardigan, little makeup and my "sexy secretary" glasses. All of a sudden my boring day of cleaning and doing laundry has turned in to a minty explosion of possibilities. Throw on this sweet bracelet from my mom and a funky ring and I'm good to go.
No one needs to know that my hair totally turned out awful and that's why it's up or that I really planned on wearing jeans and a black top and feel un peu over dressed or despite all of my effort to avoid it, I recently caught my brother's cold that he caught from me who I originally might have gotten from Christine, and I've been all kinds of gross today. No one will have any idea, except for the very who read this.
And now that Christine and Pete are on their way and my jeans are most likely dry, I don't feel like changing. I think I'm going to run with my thrown together minty concoction. Yeah I've referenced mint twice now... must be a spring thing.

I feel like I'm destined to be a professional intern, at least I'm good at it.

Blame it on the "tapestry"

I was on facebook tonight and so were a few of my roommates. We were chatting back and forth about how lame we are and how sad life is without our friends around. I'm so thankful for the friends I have but because we've made such strong relationships and have relied so heavily on them it's hard to do anything with out that support system. Have we become completely codependent and if that's true, then how long is it going to take for any of us to adjust to what we no longer have?
And the ultimate nightmare, are we destined to become the random alumni that hang out during Oktoberfest a little too long and drink at Joe's/Pour Haus/Goat next to first-years and the fourth-year boys supplying them with alcohol in hopes of a hook up? Yikes!

I still feel like I am that first-year out with her new friends and getting in to trouble on the weekends. I miss the adventures we had, like when one of our roommates got pissed and ditched Jodie and I in Iowa City and we had to sleep at this random dude's apartment because we didn't know where our friend lived or like... Saint Patrick's Day(any year), or going to this guy's farm for a crazy party and being so hung-over that when the Amish people glared from their buggies on the ride home you can't help but feel guilty.

It takes an amazing and talented group of girls to go to Eucharist (church) on a Wednesday night, hit up the town bars and still find time to be in every campus organization possible without being totally lame. Even thoughts of boring things like going to the caf, meal transfers, studying and taking out the recycling make me a little sad.
I love and miss you girls so much and I hope we can see each other soon!

buttons and piercings

This old lady told me I was as cute as a button the other day. I don't know how I feel about this because there are a lot of questionable buttons out there.
If my grandma said this to me I'd have no second thoughts, she has great taste. Like last year for my birthday she found this awesome polka dot mini dress and she's always sending me nail polish, funky scarves, antiques she finds in her garage, random tubes of mascara and money for my student loans that I can't afford to start paying back. My grandma is so kick ass she even asked me when I'm planning on re-piercing my nose because she misses "that cute little sparkle." Yay for amazing grandma's.
