career compromise?

I had the worst conversation with a recruiter for a hiring agency this afternoon. An impromptu phone interview turned in to an interrogation. First she implied that all young people tend to pad their resumes and I must be one of them. After assuming my resume was fake she asked me to explain each job, campus organization and reference in detail. There was little interest in what I learned from these experiences, just that I did have them.

The worst question she asked was this one: ''I see you helped make a documentary on Hurricane Katrina, did you make this in Iowa or did you actually travel somewhere?''

My reply was snotty but justifiable: ''Well Hurricane Katrina didn't happen in Iowa, so yes, we traveled to New Orleans and sent for footage from Mississippi, Florida, Tennessee and cities outside of New Orleans, Louisiana. If you would like a copy I can help you purchase one.''

Ugh, it went further downhill after being told that my broad field of choice- communications- is ''probably a bit too narrow for them'' but they would love to have me interview. Oh goody, I can not wait to interview with you in person!

In related news, CNN and Career Building published an article today suggesting jobs college grads should go after. This is probably what gave Ms. Recruiter the idea that communication experiences are unnecessary.

Ad-dicted

I love advertising but some commercials make women look so stupid. These four make me want to pull my hair out whenever I see them.

Axe is on to us ladies. They know how we meet ahead of time to strategize ways to clean up unsuspecting 21 year olds at the bar and how hot it is when they smell like teen boys. The more Axe products they use, the higher the chance we'll sleep with them, especially if they're made out of chocolate but you didn't hear it from me.
Thanks Unilever for counteracting the Dove ads.

This bothers me because it's for a Kids' Meal. If it were for a late-night after bar snack, it would still be stupid but at least fit the right audience. Kids have enough sex in their face we don't need to box it up and zoom in.

This teaches us that full-figured girls will do absolutely anything to get attention from their unappreciative significant others. In the name of saving a relationship they will make themselves look stupid and get hurt because they didn't read installation directions. You go girl!

No matter what size we are or how low our self-esteem falls, we can always count on a good sickness followed by some tasty snack food. Don't worry thought, once we over-compensate for our three days of starvation, Activia is there to get us back on track. Woo hoo!

pouty

I get notoriously pouty when my friends (especially boys of interest) are slow to make plans or get wrapped up in something else and forget to update me. This always results in over application of mascara, listening to music and taking stupid pictures with photobooth.

Enjoy.

What? You want to ride bikes on this amazing less than frigid evening? That is the best idea I have heard all day, I can not wait to see you later!

Oh damn your friend is on his way from out of town so you and your boys are skating instead until he gets here and will probably end up drinking 40s and going bowling?

Stupid boys and their visitors ruin everything
