A Girl With A Blog

This morning I slept until 11 a.m. and I was supposed to be at the theater at 10 a.m. I walked in just in time to see the entire communications department eating lunch together, so obvious that I was just getting in for the day. Luckily, people tend to laugh at me when I run in late and this group was no exception. Ugh, so embarrassing, let's hope I don't do it again... soon.

The fitted sheet on my bed ripped in the center and sort of looks like an anchor. An anchor is pretty appropriate given my negative outlook recently.. Ada=Sinking Ship. I laughed for five minutes straight, thanks universe for snapping me out of that pity party.

I feel life is one disappointing situation after another and although there is some great stuff thrown in there too, it really comes down to how you deal with the disappointment. Since college I have experienced so much rejection it is unbelievable. Prior to this, the only rejection I dealt with was in my dancing. I'd go on auditions and sometimes not get the position I wanted. I'm fine with this sort of rejection because you can control it, you can work your turn-out and get back to class. There will be another opportunity and you can learn from your mistakes.

The rejection I've had lately is both professional and personal. Professionally I have busted my ass and still haven't gotten that big first job due to the economy. There is no reason why I shouldn't have a job. There is no excuse for companies (three in particular) to promise and pseudo-hire someone and not follow through due to poor financial planning. There is no reason I should still keep at this depressing and soul-sucking job search but I am.

Personally, the guys in my life have been just as problematic. I'm exhausted from chasing after one who isn't interested and fighting with another over the way he treats me as his girlfriend while he pursues others. Not one man in my life, including family, has not turned out to be a major disappointment and my standards are not unreasonable. All I want is someone I have chemistry with. Beyond that I would like them to actively want to spend time with me, return a text a few hours after I send one and have their own interests/passions/creative outlets/friends. Boom. Not a whole lot to ask for dudes, truly it isn't.

So how do I deal with this crap? I'm running out of optimism and creative solutions.

I'm interning again, this time with the Guthrie Theater in the press and communications department. So far I absolutely love it but it brings my grand total of internships to a whopping seven. For my sanity I keep saying this will pay off one day but right now I could really use a job. I didn't want to go back to a coffee shop but it's pretty much my only option. Always the intern, never the full-time employee!

On Friday I was had a quiet night at home watching Conan and Jimmy Fallon. Fallon did a bit making fun of a kid at home named ''Jared'' and Twitter life changed forever. Just kidding but that bit lead to a comment from me to J.F. who then retweeted my message. Super cool and this is what it said:

Soon after my brush with Fallon's Twitter friends I made fun of Glen Humplik's last name while messaging my brother. What came next was really bizarre and can't be described, enjoy:

What did people do before the internet?

We held try-outs for the 2009 Fall season last week. I'm really excited for a new group and even more excited that we are completely ready for August and I don't have to be there every day! Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love coaching but it would be nicer if it wasn't half volunteer. I had the worst conversation with a recruiter for a hiring agency this afternoon. An impromptu phone interview turned in to an interrogation. First she implied that all young people tend to pad their resumes and I must be one of them. After assuming my resume was fake she asked me to explain each job, campus organization and reference in detail. There was little interest in what I learned from these experiences, just that I did have them.

The worst question she asked was this one: ''I see you helped make a documentary on Hurricane Katrina, did you make this in Iowa or did you actually travel somewhere?''
